Familial Energy Work Part 3: Everything Must Grow

Through a summer of hardship and uncertainty, nature embraced me. The flowers, the leaves, the moss, the soil...no matter where I went, it found me. Protected me. Spoke to me. And I listened. I found my kinfolk in the trees. In the water. The feathers that led me along the trail as I moved from one bloodstained destination to another.

A couple of a weeks ago, in a meditation focused on ancestral connection, I was guided to make plant care apart of my spiritual practice. My paternal grandmother, the only family member I remember having a garden appeared and it became clear. I am back in a place, where it is barren & now cold. It’s no wonder I’ve struggled recently to find motivation and meaning.

So I asked for a plant to be sent to me and two arrived. A bridge from my ancestors to my progeny, the plants inspired my daughter to observe them, writing down their characteristics and then drawing them. An activity she describes as “floating”, something that brings her closer to God.

This is Familial Energy Work in motion. Active listening, responsibility and creativity. All these things in service to those who came before me and those who come after me, as well as myself. As I find solace in the soil, I am consistently reminded that like the plants, if I plan to live, then I must grow.

Everything must grow.
